This week’s writing prompt: Describe your ideal client.
Why is it important to know our ideal client? Because when we lose site of our target audience, our content marketing can get — and this is a technical term — wonky. We’re often guilty of broadening our target audience, thinking that the world is full of target customers just waiting to experience our brand. But that’s just not the case. We have to think narrower. We have be more specific with our business objectives. Besides, unless you have an endless content marketing budget, you have to give serious thought to whom you’re trying to reach, what you want to say to them and when. When you have that ideal client in mind, you can create content that specifically targets them. For example, if you’re a B2B company and you want to work with small businesses, you can focus your content on the pain points of small business, rather than creating articles and white papers that speak to businesses of all sizes.
So, as you write for the next few minutes, think about your ideal client. What industry is the company in? Who would you work with? What are their challenges? Where are they located? What kind of budget do they have? What type of work style do they have? And so on.
Now, go write.
