It’s easy to neglect your company About page in lieu of more dynamic content efforts. After all, you can probably post to the blog with one or two signoffs, but the About page … well, that’s gonna need a full committee review.
So, it’s no wonder that when you look at a lot of About pages, they’re stale. Outdated. Boring. Plus, while you might have different writers for your blog and other content pieces bringing new ideas and styles, the About page tends to follow corporate talking points, using C-suite-approved language.
But what if you didn’t have to worry about corporate signoff? What if you could just write what you wanted about your company?
Well, that’s this week’s writing prompt: Write a new About page for your company website. Do NOT look at the current copy. Do NOT refer to your corporate style guide and branding guidelines. Just write.
Maybe you’ll stumble upon something brilliant that you’ll want to share with your boss. If nothing else, maybe it will be cathartic — the chance to write what you’ve always wanted but the C-suite wouldn’t let you.
So, set that timer for 20 minutes and — you know the drill — go write.
