In 2008, Active Voice Communications was a dream. Like many people, I was nervous about the risks that come with starting a business. But I was excited about the opportunity, and I took a few small steps (like securing a domain name and drafting a simple business plan) — then I took that giant leap.
In the spring of 2009, it became official. I had launched the first iteration of my website. I had a business license and a tax ID. And — particularly important to any business — I had clients.
Five years later, Active Voice Communications continues to thrive, and I want to say THANK YOU to the corporate marketing clients and publication editors who’ve let me be a part of their teams over the years. Some of you, I’ve worked with monthly for five years straight. Others of you only need me once a year when annual report time comes calling. Together we’ve produced some great work — publications and articles, beautiful websites, revenue-generating email campaigns and more.
Like many businesses, Active Voice has evolved over the years. My team has grown, allowing me to pull in immensely talented creative minds for large-scale projects. We no longer manage media relations campaigns; instead, we are dedicated to content strategy and development. In 2012, we updated the Active Voice branding, and in 2013, we added to our service offerings, which now include training and coaching. We’ve won awards for our work, too, but nothing is as rewarding as a client telling us that a project succeeded.
I’m spoiled, I know — I get to say that I love my work. Every day, I get to learn from talented people like you, and teach a little too. So for all of those magazines, websites, brochures, and email and social media campaigns that we’ve collaborated on in the past five years, thank you for inviting me and Active Voice Communications to be a part of your success.
Here’s to five more years!

And Now, Who Wants Presents?
Even though it’s our birthday, we’re giving away the gifts. Your writing-obsessed friends and colleagues will love this coffee mug, and we’re giving away 25 of them. Here’s all you have to do. Email me at [email protected] and give me the name/title/mailing address (U.S. addresses only) of the person you want to send a mug to. (And yes, it’s OK if that someone is YOU!) The first 25 people to email get one.
Congratulations on FIVE YEARS in business. Rock on!
