Content, content, content. It’s all you’re hearing about. But you’re struggling with budget at the moment. Who hasn’t been there?
Yes, good, strategic content marketing programs indeed require some time, energy and money. But if you need to make due on less, here are a few ideas for saving a few bucks.
1. Re-purpose, re-purpose, re-purpose. Stop starting from scratch all the time and you’ll save mucho bucks. Have you recently created a great white paper? Pull a few tidbits for blog posts and social media posts. If a guest writer/expert drafted a blog for you, invite him or her to also guest-host a podcast.
2. Be our guest. Good writers aren’t cheap. But there are often compelling reasons that might lead a subject matter expert to provide a free blog post or two for you.
3. Link to other great content. Consumers aren’t eager to follow brands who are “ME, ME, ME” all the time. And your goal should be to provide great content that your audience is interested in; it doesn’t have to be your content. Don’t link to competitors (duh), but go ahead and share editorials, reports and other pieces of content from reputable experts and organizations in your field.
4. Do a roundup post. Readers like lists. And they can be easy (and inexpensive to produce) for you too. Consider posts like “What We’re Reading Now” or “Our Favorite Resources for ____” … Helpful content that’s simple and easy.
5. Use images. Sometimes sharable content is the simplest — an image with a bold statement or quotation. (Just be sure you abide by copyright laws!)
6. Use others’ ideas. Ask a question on Facebook or Twitter, and use a blog and/or social media to share the responses (with proper attribution, of course).
