I’ve been watching my son — now 2 years old — learn new words seemingly daily since about October. I’ve been tracking his words on a semi-regular basis since that time.
To our pediatrician, nearly 100 words is awesome; to me, it hardly seems like enough to communicate. But I do know that with each passing day, we are becoming better communicators. And it’s all because he’s learning new words every day.
And it’s not just words that he’s learning. I love watching my son learn any new thing. He’s so proud of himself when he accomplishes something new — even something as mundane as removing his own sock.
Watching him learn and grow is a powerful reminder that no matter our age or where we are in our careers, we should never stop learning. I continually push myself to learn. And it’s a good thing I have this desire, because in marketing/communications, change is constant. New platforms and tools to use. New approaches to content. New theories. New algorithms. And did I mention new tools? So many tools.
For many of us, there is so much to stay on top of that it can be downright overwhelming at times. So, this week’s writing prompt is designed to help you think about and process what it is you want to learn.
This week’s writing prompt is: What do I need/want to learn next?
Stop and consider all the things you’ve been meaning to research, classes you’ve been wanting to enroll in, webinars you have archived. What one skill is most important for you to become better at your job? And what tools/resources are out there to help you tackle this professional development?
You know how we roll. Do you really need to write it all out? Not necessarily, though we’re writers over here, so that’s how we process things best. But whether you write or just think out loud, I encourage you to give some thought to your own education and professional development today.
